This training course is developed by the world’s leading provider of colour qualifications – Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC). This course is intended to provide knowledge, enhance career prospects and provide a stepping stone to Chartered Colourists status – the ultimate accolade for colourists everywhere.

NEW Course Element – Students will be able to operate spectrophotometer to assess the coloaur scientifically. They can use those colour data to communicate with their supplier instead of using conventional visual assessment. Precise colour desciption and objective colour assessment would be obtained under this scientific colour measurement.

Who should attend – Specifiers, designers, buyers, garment technologists, fabric makers, dyers, garment makers and anyone who ensures colour is consistent from design to final garment.

This training programme may be subsidised by the “Reindustrialisation and Technology Training Programme (RTTP)” of the Vocational Training Council. Eligible applicants can apply for a training grant.

Lesson 1
1 Jun 2019 (Saturday)
Principles of Colour Development, Assessment, Communication and Approval

Content:

  • Starting with a colour idea, learn how to develop colour standards and a colour palette.
  • An introduction to technical and commercial terminology used in communication between dyers / technologists and non-technical roles such as designers and buyers.
  • Develop an appreciation of the financial and time implications of poor or late decision making.
  • An explanation of the eye and colour perception.
  • Key principles of colour assessment.
  • Basics of colour terminology and industry terms used to describe colour in communication between dyers and the technologist.
  • An introduction to the concept of best international practice for colour communication.
  • Includes practical colour exercises and demonstrations
  • Includes a written assessment of understanding.

Aims and objectives for this lesson:

  • An insight into how different professionals in the retail and dyeing industries work together to achieve the final coloured product.
  • An awareness of the cost benefits of good colour communication and the environmental impact of poor colour communication.
  • An understanding of how colour palettes are created.
  • An appreciation of best practice in colour standard creation and approval through to bulk production.
  • An understanding of the terminology used in industry internationally.
  • Develop an understanding of coloir perception: the eye and how we see colour.
  • Give an introduction of colour communication: visual and instrumental.
  • Develop an appreciation of best practice.
Lesson 2

Practical visual colour assessment of textiles

Content:

  • An understanding of the equipment nest practice and maintenance.
  • The importance of colour vision, and experience of verbal colour communication and terminology.
  • This lesson involves the candidate in hands on colour assessment and the correct use of dyers terms.
  • Includes practical colour exercises and demonstrations.
  • Includes a written and practical assessment of understanding.

Aims and objectives for this lesson:

  • Give detailed practical best practice in visual colour assessment of textiles.
  • At the end of the lesson, the candidate will have practical experience of visual colour decision making and an appreciation of terminology.
Lesson 3
15 Jun 2019 (Saturday)
Practical instrumental colour assessment of textiles

Content:

  • Understanding of the equipment and best operating practice.
  • This lesson involves the candidate in practical specimen preparation and presentation to the instrument.
  • Understanding of pass / fail (colour difference) reports.
  • Includes practical colour exercises and demonstrations.
  • Includes a written and practical assessment of understand.
  • Visit DATACOLOR HK office for using computer colour matching device

 Aims and objectives for this lesson:

  • Give detailed practical best practice in instrumental colour assessment of textiles.
  • At the end of the lesson, the candidate will have practical experience of best practice for instrumental colour measurement of textiles.
